Taumelland h\u00f6rt zu:<\/p>\n

„Von Las Vegas flog ich nach New York. Ein junger Amerikaner \u00fcberlie\u00df mir seinen Fensterplatz:
\nEr h\u00e4tte die Staaten schon oft von oben gesehen. Er h\u00f6rte eine seiner Lieblingskassetten im Walkmann: \u00a0The Alan Parson\u2019s Project, Tales of Mystery and Imagination (E. A. Poe). Wahrscheinlich Zufall: Seit 30 Jahren bin ich Poe-Fan. Die Platte hab ich auch; er hatte die \u00fcberarbeitete, stellenweise noch sch\u00f6nere Fassung und ich durfte mir einige Passagen anh\u00f6ren. So jedenfalls kamen wir ins Gespr\u00e4ch. Er schien sportlich, zeigte mir Bilder vom Wochenende. Er hatte herrliche Tage mit Freunden irgendwo in den Rockies an einem einsamen See verbracht. Ich sah ihn Wasser-Ski fahren.<\/p>\n

Sp\u00e4ter schickte er mir eine deutsche Version des \u201eBook of Mormon\u201c. Eine Passage auf Seite 500 war angestrichen:<\/p>\n

\u201eSiehe, ich m\u00f6chte euch auffordern, wenn ihr dieses hier lesen werdet \u2013 sofern es nach Gottes Weisheit ist, da\u00df ihr es lest – , da\u00df ihr daran denkt, wie barmherzig der Herr zu den Menschenkindern gewesen ist, von der Erschaffung Adams an bis herab zu der Zeit, da ihr dieses hier empfangen werdet, und da\u00df ihr im Herzen dar\u00fcber nachdenkt\u2026
\nUnd durch die Macht des Heiligen Geistes k\u00f6nnt ihr von allem wissen, ob es wahr ist\u201c.<\/p>\n

Auf dem Kennedy-Airport pa\u00dfte er auf mein Gep\u00e4ck auf, w\u00e4hrend ich Geld holen ging. Wir nahmen zusammen ein Taxi nach Manhattan. Der Fahrer kam aus Indien: Viele Leute in Manhattan seien verr\u00fcckt, meinte er. \u2026<\/p>\n

Hier in New York war John Lennon erschossen worden.
\nLange vor dieser Reise \u2013 m\u00f6glicherweise wieder so ein Zufall \u2013 hatte ich ein kleines Gedicht notiert:<\/p>\n

Ein Traum von John<\/h1>\n

Denn meine Kraft ist in den Schwachen m\u00e4chtig

Auf offener Stra\u00dfe von einem Irren erschossen<\/p>\n

Man schreibt dem verwendeten Kaliber<\/div>\n
